Weld them up Martin , will be ok . Cut the majority of the front panel off to maybe a inch under the frontpanel/wing joint and then trim the remainder back to the joint .

GOGGLES,
been there done that , not nice having the most tinyest bit of metal in your eye, its a pain in the arse and hurts for days after, plus it takes 48 hour for you eye to start to heal,
looks like you are having fun , if you can patch those bits from the inside, or cut and butt weld them togeather, roof sections off a scraped mini as your spend alot of time tring to make one get it fit right.
but i think you should of kept the mk1, your look back in a few years and kick yourself, as they are getting harder and harder to get hold of and cost more and more
but its down to personal choice
keep it up

Today with the nice weather i thought i better crack on with the mini i learnt a lot today. lesson 1 dont replace front panel using excisting wings. lesson 2 dont buy patten parts, they dont fit. lesson 3 dont fit a new front panel pay someone else to do it. But with a lot of swearing, wiggling and the need for paracetomol it went on. ;D ;D
