Should a 1990 mini mayfair have a sump plug washer so doesn't leak or should the plug be tight enough itself so no leaks!?! Cheers Ant

you always need a washer and strictly you're sposed to change it each time you change the oil as they crush

Depends on the BUTT the plug is going in.Some leak a bit and need the shinny ring fitted.Other's are such a tight fit they dont need it.

Ah now john you know as well as I do the plug should allways have a good clean up first and perhaps even a little smear of vaseline to help seal

Winding a bit of PTFE tape round it before you start to screw is often advantageous.

Not to much PTFE cos you dont want it to stay inside when you pull it out

Ah now Dave your talking about withdrawl (of the sump plug, for the family members reading). That is a far messier scenario than insertion and would advise to have a piece of tissue or blue roll at hand to catch any drips.
;D ;D ;D
