ive been woking on the mini all day trying to get it running then ready for a mot. managed to get it going when i could smell petrol. after pin pointing the prob it seems the fuel pipe that runs from the bottom of the float bowl to the carb is leaking from the bowl side where the pipe conects in. it also seems to be a very loose fit aswell. the mini has been off the road for 9 years now and its lost its brakes as well(drums). these are 2 areas i no nothing about so any advise would be great. or if theres someone local to me(hastings) that nose about these that could come give a lesson ill pay thanks martin

Hi there what you need is a new "o" ring to go on the end of the carb. jet, it may be easier to buy a new jet, try Southern carburetters in gatwick, as for the brakes off with the drums, xhexk forseized wheel cyliders etc. cheers

Hi, is there still a metal tag off the float bowl, its the carb serial number, post it up and Paul or I will be able to id the parts you need. I'm guessing you've a HS2 with following jet? www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?ty=pb&pid=34227&title=CARB JET 1.25 SU Minispares CARB JET 1.25 SU AUD9098A Drum brakes... I've got them on my daily run around 'the duckling'. They always need a tinker to keep in tip top condition Get the wheel off, remove the shoes, clean it all with a wire brush (no oil!) I expect the adjusters will be seized, some heat from a blow torch and pipe grips on the brake side of the adjuster will free them up. Sadly the brake cylinders/pistons may be siezed too. Replacement is best, I have reconditioned the ducks by removing and cleaniing the pistons with some fine abrasive paper. Do remove the seals first and bleed the brake once fully assembled. I rough up the brake shoes and drum face with some abrashive paper in little circles. It just takes off the glazing or rust and helps for that bite in a drum brake. To be honest, if you need the MOT asap, brakes are safety cricital and should have no comprimise. Get a professional to do it. I'm sure Gerald Dales garage would do it and let you watch. Can any one else reccomend a good garage in the far east of Sussex I would drop by over the weekend but snowed under, sorry. Glens a great chap, give him a buz.

ok thanks. Looking at the jet and it would seem mine has not got the nut on the end that enters the float bowl, just has a metal sleeve on the end of some pipe, so that must be the prob there. As for the brakes, i would not want to tackle them as i would never drive it after doing so. I would always be paranoid that they will fail if i touched them. I would love to take it to a garage but cant drive with no brakes and no mot, so maybe ill have to call glenn and try and bribe him with some cash after all. If not ill get one of those mobile mechanics out.

thanks ill bare that in mind. but today i removed the carb to investigate the prob and it seems that the metal stopper at the end of the pipe that runs from the float bowl to the jet has sheard off. so will order a new one from mini spares tomorrow. also as for the brakes i have a man coming tomorrow to have a look and fit new cylinders shoes etc as previously advised. he formally worked for ridge west garage so should be OK i think fingers crossed. ill let u no how it goes. starting to think maybe should have put thread in the garage diary lol

today had the front bakes done. the guy then said to me ok where are the rear cylinders and shoes. opps i only got back ones didnt think about rear. he looked at the rear and thay were fu***D. he said he cant finish untill he does the rear because thay have to to be blead together in order. he said to me not to worry because a lot of people over look the rear as thay think its just a handbrake. but i know he was trying to be nice and he was really thinking what a tit. so he left with me wayving him off with my head held low through inbarissment

At least you have admitted you know nothing about brakes and got someone who does to sort it , which is the sensible thing to do . I have read posts on here over the years and even the ones that think they do know........ dont.
