???hi i have an j reg mini ive just put in a metro engine all is good. BUT just as it starts it runs for 20 seconds then dies could anyone help, ive done so far, all new every thing plugs ,leads ,coil (ballast) and normally, starter soloind ,arm, points etc new fuel . loom has been changed so because the new engine has starter soloind on the wing. timing is done. there is a good spark,fuel is getting to the carb, ive tryed without the ballast resister,so if anyone has any more ideas please let me know oh i also have an hif44 carb,. thanks alot dean

got good earths? battery and engine earths. what you done with the loom ?

earths are fine the loom has been changed to run an non pre engaged starter motor ,my mate beau who has the green turbo van always at shows. had a look and said it is fine it matches the hayes manual hope this helps.

hi sounds silly but have you checked all the jets in the carb and made sure plenty of petrol is going into the float chamber

my girl friend had a similar problem, car started and ran and died in a matter of seconds. had a look at it, good fuel pressure through the jets and it sparked and timing was correct. the problem was a loose wire at the fuse box (white wire top left of box). might be worth just checking the connections at the fuse box. matt

ok new fuse box and all new connectors any more ideas oh and i took of the air filtter to clear the jet holes>!!!!!!!!!!!

Just remembered a mate of mine Had the same problem,he found that the main + lead from the battery to the starter had worn back leaving bear wire and was shorting out on the exhaust manifold.

YEEEEEP HEEEEEE,thanks everyone the car is now running it worked after i changed the cable fom the battery to the starter.!!!!!!!!!!
