Hey guys,
I need some help diagnosing a problem with the pickup. It won’t seam to run at anything more than tickover and to get that you need yor foot hard to the floor, also when you use the choak it dies, this is progressive, the more you pull it out the more the revs drop untill it eventually dies.
Please Help!

are the choke and accelerater cables adjusted on the carb properly?

Problem now fixed it was the oil in the dashpot I had neglected it being a modern car driver you dont think of these things. I know your not supposed to use wd40 but I dident have anything else so i used that and it is so mucch more responsive now

Regular engine oil is all you need in the dash pot. With no or a very light oil, when you dump the throttle, the piston rises too fast. While the piston is still low, the air is been sucked through faster and draws more fuel with it. So dump the throttle and it gets more fuel to accelerate. As you get up to speed or reduce the throttle, the piston rises to balance on the volume of air passing through and provide enough fuel as per the needle. The spring also has an effect on the balance found. The problem is not so bad with a thicker oil... when you race up the gears and drop the clutch to change gear, the piston needs to drop ASAP for the enrichment to happen. The thick oil prevents this happening fast enough. So when you lift the clutch and dump the throttle, not enough enrichment, so the car feels a little hesitant. There are mechanical fixes to do to the piston to prevent this The point is, the oil and spring in the dashpot has a huge effect on the fueling of your car under acceleration and cruising. Maintenance of this will ensure you car is responsive. Unlike Neils were the poor car was running lean just after dumping the throttle.
