Hey, I finally got round to do a compression test, just to confirm the fears of a gone piston ring, i think some of you have seen and smelt why i would assume this!!
Well i did the test a few times and:
4 cylinders all roughly the same compression at 150PSI!!
so why on earth is she burning an enormous amount of oil!
P.S.
im only firing on 2 cylinders now..fun fun fun

Hi Alistair, I know this may sound silly but could you be putting too much oil in the moke. You seemed to be rather generous with the pouring when you were topping up at Kent cricket ground on the pilgrimage. Mini engines do'nt like too much oil and was wondering if your misfire could be connected with over filling and then a burn off occuring? Just a thought.
Regards JOHN

How many miles on the motor? It's likely to be a collection of things all worn together if it's a high miler. ...If it blows out a lot of smoke when you put your foot down after trailing the throttle, could well be worn valve stems/guides. Regards, Martin.

thought it could be a head fault ? worn guides ? cant be a burnt valve cos it would loose compression .

Hmm, that really would be anoying as all that cylinder head stuff was refurbed when the car was put back together. Someone said that the Breather canister could be clogged, and as its conncted to the carb, its burning oil in the combustion cycle.
