i've had her running properly for the last couple of weeks, as some of you know from the pilgrimage, until yesterday.
She will only fire on three cylinders, unless i take the HT lead out and hold it away from the plug slightly, or put it on the plug loosesly causing it to jump onto the sparkplug. so it makes that ticking noise, but the plug does fire.
SO...i replaced the HT leads, and Spark plugs....Same issue.
ALL ignition parts are new and sometimes replaced twice. These include, Coil, Dizzy, Points, COndensor, HT leads, Sparking Plugs, Rotor arm.
She is timed perfectly
So any ideas?? anyone else had this problem?

petrol and a lighter, that car sounds like it has the devil in it, not got a clue sound electrical, ignition but thats all new and checked, changed and tested twice, three times or more. bit of a head scratcher everytime you want it to work it does not and when you just want to go for a drive when there is nothing on it works. has it got a good earth or is anything getting sorted out on bare metal.

I was thinking the Earth, but the Strap is brand new. I cant see were it would be shorting, and why it fixes itself when th leads are slightly away! I am starting to think the engine is cursed. Better phone a priest!

There are some black marks on the rotor arm. I suppose if its not sparking, its grounding in the Dizzy?

have you moved the plug from 3 to another cylinder to see if the problem moves?

sorry, misread as cylinder 3.
sounds like the spark is weak, not sure why only to that cylinder but by holding the lead further away you are intensifying the spark, making it stronger.

Hmmm, that is quite odd, could a Dizzy cap be at fault?

I guess it could be the cap. Have you checked around the number 1 contact for any cracks. Do you have another, even an old one to try?

You say there is black mark on rotor arm.Is it on the tip? check contacts on dizzy cap suspect you will find arching marks on no 1 inside cap.Try cleaning contacts up with a bit of emery or similar . Sounds like you are getting a weak spark to no 1 .Faulty dizzy cap contacts can cause this fault. Again check contacts inside dizzy.
