Finally had my car set up properly, took it over to Gerald Dale this afternoon. Running as sweet as a nut, and producing 51.9 bhp! Woooo! Case closed people.... Other than my wet problem, but a cover, new dizzy cap and HT leads should solve that =)

51.9bhp out of a 998, very good. I bet you've really noticed the differance. ;D
What was the peak torque figure and at what rpm? What do the graph curves look like? Any reccomendations from Gerald?

a disposable rubber glove over the dizzy with the finger tips cut to allow the ht leads through can really help with damp

It's made a massive amount of difference Simon, it's rather brilliant! Could easily have been caught out for speeding earlier though, so many cops around. Peak torque was 55.? lb ft I believe, at 3800ish rpm 3rd gear. I'll keep the print outs and show you next club meet if you want? Oh, and it had 33bhp before hahaha.... So a HUGE difference.

Not bad getting 51.9bhp, mine managed to get 57. something Bhp ;D. What did you have done to yours? My points are just playing up at the moment - think some new ones are in need. Ant

Yours a 998 too? I have a K & N air filter, LCB, a now modified needle, and apparently a stage 3 exhaust but I reckon it's a stage 1 or 2 with just a big(ish) bore. So basically a stage 1 kit, and a couple of extra little things as you may well have seen if you've seen my one before.

hi jack, thats a good result. i was pleased with humbug, hes 998 with stage one kit, his result was 57.0 bhp at flywheel & torque 61.6 lb ft/4017 rpm max road speed reached in test 77.3mph & 5782 rpm really makes a diffrence doesnt it! ;D nicky

Wow! That's a pretty good result too =D I wonder what's keeping mine down to 52ish then? Could be my exhaust xD But nice one Nicky!

Tony & I both got about 51-52 when we setup our 998's last year. You'd gain at least 5bhp by taking the head off, new guides if required, lapping the valves then taking it back to Gerald. Nicky may have a differant compression ratio which would make the differance. Thats a healthy torque figure at just the right rpm. Maximum pull at the overtaking RPM of 3800. What rpm does the torque curve drop off? Thats the RPM you need to change up a gear to use the engine to its best. Torque is that buzz we crave (acceleration), BHP is just how fast it will go.

Torque really starts to drop off at about 4900, but drops slowly from 4300 onwards, with a little bump between 4450ish and 4700. My rev gauge isn't accurate, so I really can't tell when that is haha, I'm just gonna have to feel when I should. Care to explain what guides are, and what lapping the valves involves? And what exactly is a compression ratio? I sortof understand but not quite... I couldn't put it into words lol

Oh, and peak torque was at 3702, not at 3800 as previously stated... Not that it really makes much difference (I hope)
