Hello Peeps, This July, I will be jumping in our newly acquired 1980 850cc, and heading in the general direction of Mongolia! Why? well, it's a long story that can be explained, but it would be easier for you to have a look at our website. mongolrally08.theadventurists.com/themaddogandenglishmanAs I just mentioned, we picked up our Mini only yesterday, and I'm sorry to say that Aunt Betty is a non runner. Her curves are untouched by rust or rot, she just needs a bit of foundation and lippy, and a new set of Jimmy Choo shoes, and away we will go.........If only it will be that easy Joking aside, the body work is clean, but the engine will need a bit of TLC. I have been offered another 850 engine, but we will be needing a few spares. If anyone has any unwanted 850 bits, please let me know. I am also after some original 10" wheels. We're not after alloys as the will be ruined on the journey. Ah yes, the journey. 8 - 10,000 miles, depending on which route we take, mainly due to how lost we will be! Here she be This is Ben, my wingman For some reason my photo with Aunt Betty wont load onto Photobucket?!? Any help, advice and parts will be gratefully received, and all being well, we will bring her down to a meeting before she makes the epic journey. Jon

Cheers Paul, thanks for the offer. It is sad to say that Aunt Betty will be staying in Mongolia. She will be auctioned off to raise more money for charity (unless we can raise even more money to bring her back). Here's a video of Ben showing us round Betty. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KHHup1K5C2k

First of all I wish to make a donation to help you along ;D.
In return I soooooo want the seats and door cards of your Mini, just the type I need for my 1275GT restoration, rainbow brown! Plus I'll find replacments for you, equally nasty looking of course! ;D
Thats a fine trailer you have there, did the move go all to plan?
Talk soon
Simon

Thank you for the offer of a donation Simon. I spoke with Ben and we are happy to swap the seats with you, as long as the ones you have are comfy as we have about 10,000 miles to cover. The ones in Aunt Betty were really rather nice and plump, and kind to the posterior! and of course it all matches Picking her up was fairly easy, other than pushing her up the slope, then up onto the trailer

Latest news..... With the help of Paul, we delivered Aunt Betty to the college yesterday afternoon, and I think to their amazement, she's in a better condition than they were expecting. The handsome chap on the left will be me of course, Paul in the middle, and the Engineering manager, Ray Prescott. Will keep you posted with the updates, less than 50 days to go!!!!!!

West Kent College at Tunbridge Wells, in their automotive engineering department. They have the most amazing set up, with the building split in two. One half is the automotive engineering, the other half is the machine shop, who are making our roof rack and sump guard, and any other bits we need to get her up to speed.

Just a phone call. It was a case of speaking to the right person. They are chuffed to be involved. I'm hoping to keep in with them once the Mongol Rally is over.
