Finally got it sorted, ditched the servo and replaced it with a standart master cylinder, bled it through and had brakes straight away! must have been a faulty servo!
Thanks to Dean for the help (I owe you a few beers mate), wasn't much to do but i was loosing heart on my own!
hopefully see some of you on the road soon!!

as a mot tester i am afraid to tell you that if a car was manufactured with a servo it must have a servo present for the mot.
Minis from late F/89 had servo's

GOING BACK A BIT .....it all seems such a coincidence that the brakes stopped working well after the clutch went in , ok hydraulically they are not connected but something has happened . Was there a split in the servo pipe, rubber bung where pipe goes into servo or something else To test a servo , pump up brake pedal till it goes hard . With foot still on brake , start engine . The pedal should sink a bit .

ok , surely you have not dumped the servo . You may be lucky and find a MOT tester who does not know what hes doing when you come to get it tested . That may sound all well and good but its also a bit worrying . Makes you wonder what other things he could miss Hope you sort the problems out ok Dave

ok , surely you have not dumped the servo . Life without a servo! It must be like going you the gym every time you brake now! It must be like losing an ECU for a dizzy and carb ;D I cant believe the servo produced such a fault. How is it know? If anything, the servo would more 'show up' a problem with the brakes. I'm sure you know the importance of good breaks. Do get a second opinion from a mini friendly garage or get the car on some MOT brake rollers to check its all in good order.

in my experiance if something has gone wrong with a car even if its completely unrelated to recent work carried out by a garage the customer comes back to complain .
You did not say who did the clutch but implied it was not you . I would suggested taking it back , but its done now.
