Hi everyone, currently i am having serious headaches regarding my 1430 engine in my mini. I have had 2 different distributors put in and it still runs terrible? The main problem is i have no power under load as the engine just about runs but when to try pull off it just cuts out? I think im gonna have to have the head taken off to see if there is a problem with one of the valves. If anyone has got any ideas or knows someone good with performance a series engines let me know, cheers.
My engine is as follows..........
1430 bored block with omega pistons weber 45 unknown cam new aldon yellow dizzy with ignitor stg 5 head

Is this newly built or second hand? I presume the latter due to unknowen cam. if the engine is of unknown condition you will have to dismantel it find out the true spec / condition. then you can set it up to spec. N

cant see internal head prob causing this. . You got the right coil to match the dizzy? Check all your bits are compatible then check everything is wired up correctly . Then look at fueling. A valve problem would give you lack of compression and/or misfire. Since you have had the engine has it always run like this? if not what has been changed before it started messing about.? Dave

have u sorted it yet? try a simple compression test that'l save you taking the top end apart , i suspect it might be a timing or electrical fault ,revert back to old technology a known good dissy with points and a standard coil see how it behaves then , is the car wired with the ballasted resistive wire built into the loom or is it the loom with no balasting this has been known to have serious effects on a setup installed into the equasion on a standard loom.also if it has a comp fast road cam is it clocked in right on the crank - cam pullys, providing you know who has profiled the cam will reccommend the degree setup for it , however if you have a nice vernier try experimenting with it , its suprising how much umph you can get form a well set up race fast road cam but be aware this could lead to serious damage to pistons if you dont know what you doing . best regards S

Shawn, had quite a new car in last year with a misfire. It had been to a couple of places but was still misfiring. Turned out the hydraulic tappets were not functioning correctly because the wrong grade of oil was used. Changed the oil and filter and all was well. The moral hear is before diving head first in the deep end DO NOT OVERLOOK THE BASICS
