so as i posted in my thread i thought it might be a good idea to post in the right section.
Basically doing conversion 998 too 1275.
(copied) Engines got compression, fuel, and a spark. however no firing, i dont know if the ignition timings way out or what, ive tried rotating it, even put the 998 distributor in out of desperation and zilch. preety sure the plug leads are right. 1,3,4,2 going anti clock yes? unless like elliots the distributor drive is upside down in which case it'll be backwards? i just dont know now and im getting quite annoyed.

Is TDC on the rotor arm pointing at around 2 o'clock with piston 1 at the top. If not you need to rotate the dizzy drive so it is. Are the rocker gaps set right. Gaps on the plugs. It can't be much. It must be something simple.
It's 1 of those things that you kind of need to see and go over. I also think I may have a starter. What kind is it.
If you want me to have a look let me know.

sussed it! the distributor has to be turned right round so the module is touching the starter to get it to run, and it definatly has the wrong needle.
i mean i know the starter in it before was pre verto and the verto one is slightly longer but why is it that far round? so currently it has the 998 distributor in.
is there any electronic distributor i can use that doesnt have the module on the side?

Right that's good. But it sounds like the dizzy drive it 1 notch too far round. As it should not touch the starter, the dizzy drive needs to be put back one notch the anti clock wise. As it goes in it turns. So it may take a while to get it in the right place.
The best thing to get it out with out dropping it in and so it easier to adjust. Use the long bolt that goes through the lower mount on the rad cowl. It's about 4" long. There is a thread in the middle on the dizzy drive. If not I made a tool you can use.
Did you get a dizzy with the engine. If it works then maybe it will be fine.
Glad it's running ish

I've had that problem before, think the dizzy drive was 180 degrees out

but i took the cap off turned it so no1. was about to fire and it seemed to be in the right place roughly, unless i was on the wrong stroke. if this is the case how would i solve it? swap the plug leads around one space?

I have had mine 180 degrees out before and just swapped the leads round.

Ditto on the 180 degree's out, as long as you compensate for it being 180 out and doing everything opposite it works fine. Ant

My knowledge of distributors is limited to watching other people fiddle with them so can't really help. I have a strong dislike for them.

Demon Tweeks I think, quite pricey but apparently they have a much longer lifetime if you don't use the car much

yeah i saw they were a bit pricey after a quick google but if they have a better lifetime i'll probably get one, and its weight saving Seeing as the cars been sat for probably a month, and the battery on it is only 3-4 months old its completely dead (note for everyone here, dont buy a battery from autolec there awful) its the 2nd battery in less than 2 years and they wouldnt even take accept any sort of claim or warrenty with it.
