as title would suggest, the problem is this, after engine has run for about 10 mins fuel starts to pour out of the overflow. ive taken the bottom end of the carb appart and cleaned out the float etc there doesnt seem to be anything wrong with it. if i blow through the inlet and tip the carb then the float engages and no air passes, there doesnt appear to be any holes in the float.this is on a hif44, if anyone has any sensible ideas or maybe someone has a good 44 for sale cheaply. i forgot to add that this carb was on gilbert for about a year and we had the same problem when we first set it up then all appeared ok and it ran fine, so any bright ideas

it has got to be the float mate its not shutting of properly as far as i know there is no other reason for to much petrol entering the float bowl , its the same as a toilet cistern if to much water go,s in it over flow,s unless anyone else knows of something else

ok here goes , i had the same problem with a hiff 38 (same crb just smaller throat) when re fitting it to an engine change .It turned out to be a worn float plunger and seat we hat to replace both components and this sorted it ,some of the older members may well remember sorting this by carefully re seating the mateing surfaces but it a very precise and delicate job replacement is the way to go . Contact SU and buy the whole assembly and replace it ,not an expensive job but well worth the piece of mind on the safety point of view stopping petrol dripping over the engine !. DONT FORGET NEEDLE AND SEAT BOTH COMPONENTS .It would be provident to fit a good quallity fuel filter in the fuel line too.
