how can i run up an engine before i put it in a vehicle.

give it fuel ,battery and an exhaust of some kind away it goes ,had one running on the kitchen table about 12 years ago !!

you need to a battrey live on big bolt on the starter motor and earth on engine you will need to use a screew driver to start it from big bolt to conecter on starter
then you need to add you carb and part exhaust
and a bit off fuel if you have a spear fuel pump ypu may use that other wise I use a hamster drinking bottle with the ball removed filled with fule and a small hole it othwr end to let it flow

I finaly got the crake to turn turn I joined the battrey to it to just have it turning but I got to put all the head back on tomorow but I cant buy another engine at mo so going to drop it in and try it vet bill cost more then I expected

Well before you put that engine in the car , like you said put and exhaust and car on the back and see if it runs. No point spending hours putting an engine in that's knackered. And have to take it out again.
Also do a compression test on it. And also only use a payen head gasket. The cheap ones don't sell we'll and your find the head gasket will go soon after you fitting it.

thx mate I not testing it just going to put it in because if it dont work it going to be a month or so till I can get engine and need to move it we c how I feel tomorow lol but I will get better gasket
