This flew through a MOT monday last week . I did re-shim the upper swivel on the nearside before the MOT in a attempt to stop the knocking comming from that side as well as reducing the play . I got rid of the play but something is still knocking and needs a look . The swivel kits that are available these days do not come with many shims , unlike the good old days . However Minispares do sell shims of varying thickness that are not in the swivel kits . They are obviously cheap and worth ordering at same time as a swivel kit from them . Was going to sort the knocking the day after the Mot but the water pump went on the way to work so I had to do that during a t-break and my lunchtime. all ok now .
On way back from helping Dean load the mk1 I aquaplained the Mini along the Dicker / A22. It was the night of that really bad rain , I drove blind into a large puddle and off I span comming to rest against a large pole . Smashed bumper , bent bonnet chrome strip snapped number plate and a dinked front panel. Other than that , a whack underneath causing the front pipe to blow and it being absolutely covered in mud , we got away with it .

Not had much luck with Mayfair over last couple of weeks . Last week I noticed the front grille looked a little pushed in , not bad but not right . This week the bloody thing broke down in the rain on the A27 just before Falmer . I got on 27 at Lewes and noticed battery light was glowing a bit . Dont know what made me look at it as it is always impossible to see when driving due to the angle of the steering wheel even in its standard height as I have it . Anyway, after I went past the usual club meeting point layby the light was on brightly , brighter than the dash lights by this time . Eventually the engine died and I had to wang it up over the curb onto grass quickly to avoid being hit by a coach . Dont think the floor or exhaust liked that much. Must check the wheel alignment .Tried to start but it was dead flat . I had a peek in the boot , the terminals were on the battery but the neg could have been tighter . I turned the terminal upside down and put it back on the battery , nice and tight now . Then I called work and waited for them to turn up . After ten minutes I thought I would try to start it . The bugger only started . So I carried on to work but broke down again at the top of Woodingdean . However that was a easy push in queing traffic to a brow of a hill so I could roll it down to the traffic lights . I rolled through the lights and attempted to bump roll start it , again it burst into life and I drove it all the way to work where it conked out right outside the workshop ;D I charged the battery up during the morning , re-fitted it at lunch and tested the alternator . It was not charging . I took the cap off the block connector on the back of the alternator and found the 2 large wires so badly corroded they had broken off the terminals . 5 minutes and 2 new yellow wiring connectors latter it was charging ok . Check your alternator wires guys. Today driving home I thought the front bumper was vibrating a bit . I had put one of Matilda's old genuine bumpers on after I had the crash in the snow . When I got home even in the unlit lane I could see someone had reversed into the front putting a tow ball into middle of bumper and a pushing the grille in badly . Both are scrap .

Whoops. Was is parked out the front of work when someone left there towbar mark in it.
It's not too bad for a mini that's been daily used , and even more luck that it was not the mk1!!!!!!!!!

Still the cost of a cooper grille and another bumper to find . Even more annoying was that the bumper was a hologram Rover one.

The bodged repair done by the previous owners repairing garage on the exhaust is really starting to grind now in more ways than one . A injected car with a cat does not have mixture adjustment . This car has a cat and a carb as standard . You will not get a true carb emission readout from the exhaust due to the cat so I believe this is why Rover put a tube in the downpipe of these cars to allow a emissions reading to be taken for adjusting the carb . The garage has carried out a welded repair to the downpipe by adding a section of exhaust pipe which is too long and now the exhaust hangs down to low . It ground out with the kids in car at standard suspension height and is even worse now it is lowered . The take off pipe was also welded up so I cannot adjust the carb correctly , its now using loads of fuel and with the downpipe to manifold joint now typically blowing its dooberies off I can smell it is rich to . So I am putting a Minispares stage 1 kit together from a Minispares manifold donated by Dean and the single box rc40 system and inlet manifold donated by Micra mini from it's 998cc Studio 2 days. I am using the kn and needle from mk1 . Should sort out a few problems all at the same time .

That was actually 2006 not 2007 Dean . Definately the first EDMC Riv Run campsite location though.
