The goal for this weekend was to sort the indicators, fog light, hazard lights and fit the windscreen. The hazards were sorted by cleaning the terminals inside the switch which also got the indicators working. The fuse box terminals were grotty which was causing the fog light not to work. As mentioned elsewhere I attempted to fit the front screen but that ended with a cracked screen in the rubbish bin so I've got JP Windscreens doing the job properly tomorrow. With the MOT looming I'm starting to panic that I've missed something, but that's just me I suppose.

I had JP windscreens fit the windscreen on Tuesday, great job done at a great price. So then I could fit the wiper rack which refused to work......dohh,but on closer inspection it was the connection box on the side of the wiper motor that was pulling apart preventing the wipers from working. A carefully placed cable tie sorted that and now the wipers have both speeds and park as well. Tonight I've sorted the screen washers by fitting new jets, pipes and pump. Hopefully the new indicator/ horn switch will arrive tomorrow and then the horn will work.
So this weekend I will fit my lovely bodge repaired doors, fit the front seats and hopefully by Monday DVLA will return the ammended V5 so that I can get some new number plates for the MOT at midday.

First of all can I say a big thank you to Chairman Matt and Lisa for the offer of a loan of the indicator switch. Cheers guys. Well today was a bit fraught..... The new indicator switch didn't arrive until this afternoon which meant I missed the midday MOT, I had spent most of the morning trying to make a decent switch out of two broken ones but to no avail. So I decided to admit defeat and cancelled the MOT,then as soon as I had put the phone down I received a text from Matt saying he had a spare switch so I drove over to there place to get it. While standing chatting to Lisa I got a call to say that the new switch had arrived........sods law,so I went back home and got the new switch and then went up the garage and fitted it. A quick check showed the new switch was working fine but the dip beam headlights had packed up,this was traced to the connections at the front panel. I then phoned the garage and booked the MOT for tomorrow but drove the Mini down today to be left there overnight. This was the first time on the road and it was great......no funny noises,no funny smells, everything worked, brakes are very strong, runs a bit hot so keep an eye on that,Speedo reeds slow so will need a trip with the Sat nav.

I put the Mini in for NOT on Tuesday.......it failed.......but only on both main beams not working and exhaust emissions .Nothing major. I sorted the lights (dirty connections) and Dave the tester adjusted the mixture and it then passed......yippee !!!!!. I'm now waiting for DVLA to return the amended V5 so that I can tax it,but it still shows as being 998cc on the MOT computer it may be a while yet.

Well done grant and Lewis. Time to start to enjoy the show even more. Are the dvla being fussy about the engine change. Sometimes they ask fir recept etc of the garage that fitted it. But what they don't understand is that alot of people do it them selfs.
You should be able to tax it as a 1275 and a 998 is the same tax class they don't normally check the engine cc is the same on the mot , insurance and renewal. They may do if you do it on line but at the post office you may get away with it.

I phoned the DVLA yesterday to try to get the V5 reference number so that I could tax it online but they said that as the V5 ammendmants were being processed the old ref number had been cancelled and a new one had not yet been issued. They also said that my V5 had been upgraded to "Priority Status" but could still take up to 3 weeks to process,so we won't be camping at Southern Mini Days but should be able to make the Festival of Transport.........hopefully.

Lewis and me went to Southern Mini Days on Saturday and got a carpet set and centre console to finish off the interior. We also got a bargain.... a second hand Kent MD266 cam for £10,its in very good condition and was ground from a billet. It will be used in "Grants Grunter" engine build which will be a 1360/1380cc with a nice head,266 cam and HIF44.This will be built for low down torque rather than a screamer over the coming winter.

Sounds like a bargain. I wouldn't go straight to 1359 / 1380 though if you can help it. Much better to just go the next size up so the block will still have some life left in it when it breaks. Good 1275 blocks are getting really expensive.
You going for a megajolt type ignition? Be great for that spec of engine.

Hadn't planned on changing the ignition Stephen but I do like the look of the 123 distributors which have 16 switchable advance curves built in.

I think they're a waste of money compared to distributorless systems, makes a huge difference to driveabilty. Plus about 5mpg average on our old 998 Mini once it was up and running.

I received the V5c from the DVLA today but they returned it not amended, still as a 998 auto.......useless bunch. Now I've got a reference number I'll tax it and then send it back to be amended again.

Got another letter from the DVLA asking for written proof from Austin Rover that the 12HD09 engine number is 1275cc as I've stated on the V5 amendments. That could prove a bit tricky as Austin Rover don't exist anymore. But now its insured as what it is and MOT'd and taxed I'm not really worried about it.
