Yesterday we adjusted the rear toe in and camber. We set the camber to 1 degree negative after reading in Bill Sollis' book that he used to set his race cars to 3/4 degree negative. The toe in was reduced by fitting 2.7mm spacers between the brackets and sub frame, with straight edge placed along the tyre it touches the sill in the middle of the door on both sides. This is the only way I have of checking that the toe in is the same on both sides as I don't have any tracking gauges. Today was an enforced rest day after a very messy stag night which left me a tad fragile.

Forgot to say,we also set the front tracking with the straight edge so that it is parralell with the sills then we measured the wheelbases and both are identical.

Had an unexpected day off work today so made the most of it and had a whole day in the garage. Made the decision to go for a grey undercoat look until its properly painted so dragged my old electric detail sander out and set too. I got three large rattle cans of grey primer from Autolec, and some paint prep cloths from Halfrauds and the finish is loads better than expected.

So far I've painted the roof, passenger side and back panel/valance. I Will need a plastic primer for the fiberglass bonnet and will get the other panel painted when the apprentice is here this weekend. I've tried to post some pics from my phone but it won't happen.

We got an Aleybars 6 point roll cage during the week from MiniGTS who is breaking a late Cooper (still loads of good bits on it so get round there) and today I fitted some 3mm floor reinforcing plates and drilled and bolted the rear cage down. I've painted the front legs and brackets to match the rear cage. Lewis has been his usual incredible self and used the sander to rub down the bootlid and then sprayed it in grey primer then he rubbed down the fibreglass bonnet and sprayed it with grey plastic primer......superb job done !!!!. Before all this we managed to drive the car up and down the lane a few times which put a huge grin on both our faces. Tomorrow we'll bolt in the painted front cage and Lewis can fit the bootlid then we'll paint the front panel and fit the lights if it dries.

We made an early start today,we were at the garage at 08:00. The front cage was in and Lewis had the bootlid fitted then masked and sprayed the drivers side and front panel all by 11:30. We then went shopping while the paint dried and when we returned we fitted the new headlights and indicators,we had a little problem with the side light holders not fitting the light bodies but it was easily sorted.

Thanks to the nature of my work I sometimes have days off because of lack of work at short notice as was the case this week,so having Tuesday and Thursday off has meant this have progressed nicely. So this week we have..... Replaced the leaking water pump with a new cast iron impellor one. Cut the holes in the wings for the side repeaters. Finnished priming the wings. Fitted a van grille. Fitted new stainless bumpers Fitted the front Grp 2 arches. Fitted the bonnet pins. Made brackets for the passenger seat and trial fitted it. Painted the padded dash top rail black. Repaired the steering column switches mount. Got the hazards working, none of the indicators work so suspect a live feed problem. The MOT will be booked for 01 August so that we can be at Southern Mini Days the following weekend.
