make sure its a 1275 head gasket, ha ha ha, ( i know some one who put a 998 gasket on a 1275)
any head gasket should be fine from a motor factor,
i know you already know but make sure the head is flat,

After 2 "we can get one for tomorrow" (Partco & Autolec) I finally got a head gasket set from CPA. So the head is now back on and painted green,I also had to drill out the unused heater outlet and tap the bolt holes and then warm up the Metro thermostat housing to free the 3 seized bolts. Then I started tarting up the ancilleries and bolting them back on.

Todays plan was to refit the refurbed rear subframe into the shell but we could'nt get any new bolts in Eastbourne so have put that on hold until next weekend. Lewis did a great job of painting the petrol tank while I cut off the rusty rear valance and boot lid hinge panel,I carefully cut the hinge panel leaving the outer 2 hinge bolt holes so that I can line up the new panel. i151.photobucket.com/albums/s159/Biggelmo/The%20Family%20Affair/041.jpg

This weekend we only managed a short time in the garage so not much was done, but we did manage to sort out the rad/engine mount bracket as supplied by Dean.

Everything went to plan today and we also got a bargain K&N air filter at the bootfair this morning. We went to the bootfair at Nash Street and found an unused K&N induction kit for a 1.0ltr Saxo which we got for £5,its a large filter that I guessed might just fit on the HIF44 with some bodgery and if it did'nt the we could eBay it . After closer inspection I found a split in the mounting flange which meant it could not be eBayed so I set about cutting the flange off and making an adaptor from sheet steel to mount it on the carb. We got the arms, trumpets and doughnuts off the subframe and then got the engine fitted to it,the 10mm spacers that I welded onto each side proved to be just wright. Next we trial fitted the engine and subframe into the shell and after a bit of hammer thrashing to the floor to clear the LCB we decided to leave the engine and subframe in place and fitted the solid top and rear mounts. Then we tried the carb and new filter and it fits but is really tight so might vibrate on the bulkhead when running but for £5 Idont mind chucking it if it does. I will post some pics later when Lewis texts them to me,my phone went flat.

Try a 1275 top engine steady if it's too tight to the bulkhead, they're a bit longer so will give you more space
