1275Also as you can see the distributor hits the starter as im running pre-verto. i dont know whether i can get away with running it like that as long as i dont need to advance/retard it any further... if not what distributor can i use?

turn it back just a little just short of a 1/4 of a turn and it should be about right , that module block on the dizzy should be at about 3 o clock ish , you should get it to run from there, if not turn it a little clock wise
if its that far round it will be too far and you never get it to run

ok, was just making sure i had enough movement. i had to move it to get the starter in and didnt really take note of where it was. but that'll give me a good basepoint to start from thanks.

Have you got a spark,
Is the power going in to and out of the coil,
As you running electronic dizzy have you got the right coil,
If you have a spark you should have some sort of coff.
Start with the basics and start at the beginning , power , spark ,fuel,
I sure you work it out but if you do need a hand one evening give me a bell.

well it was a problem with fuel.... sorted that we think, then the starter packed up... so anyone with a pre verto starter lying around they dont want?
but also realised... i dont have a clutch... might have put something in wrong because of the lightened flywheel unless its way out of adjustment i dont know.. if its wrong i might kill myself.

So borrowed the starter from my boss' 68' Cooper and its back to turning over but that's it. Engines got compression, fuel, and a spark. however no firing, i dont know if the ignition timings way out or what, ive tried rotating it, even put the 998 distributor in out of desperation and zero. preety sure the plug leads are right. 1,3,4,2 going anti clock yes? unless like elliots the distributor drive is upside down in which case it'll be backwards? i just dont know

everything seems to be going quite well, however im running out of time fast, ive got -3 wheel arches to fit, 2 need to be trimmed and painted and one just needs to be re stuck as i clobbered it fitting the engine...
-need to order a new battery, and 4 point harness.
-raise the suspension so i can get full lock,
- tune the engine properly
- get insurance and tax
Its not looking good for combe!
Oh and a question, occasionally the car dies. however i think ive linked this to a bad earth on the starter solenoid (on the inner wing) if i pull it up it seems to bring power back to the car... reckon i can just remove clean the area and refit as im guessing it earths through the body?

its tight, but possible. just get it road worthy, charge the battery( or give it to me i have a good charge which brings them back from the dead), dont worry about 4 point harness yet spend the money on tax and insurance, elliot and you can tune it to a fairly good stat, i have a programme which will tell you the best needle if needed raising it up wont take long and bolting the arches on
the cutting out is what you said it is, bad earth on the soloind on the inner wing, clean it and make sure it has a good earth, and bolted tight
really push its a great show, if not go in the golf, one of the last big shows with decent traders to get parts plus you can get some really good photos

So yeah didnt make the meet last night as the golf broke down and elliot had to come rescue me, turns out continuously driving around with no petrol in the tank causes the carb' to get clogged, who'd have thought it ey Did i miss much? im back at college tomorrow so should finish reasonably early which means i'll be able to get some bits done on the mini without annoying me neighbors its going to be tight!!

Looks fun thats what my next project is too. If you find a good source for rebuilt kits or someone who knows what their doing with turbos let me know N

not sure on source of rebuild kits, my best bet would be to ask one of the motorfactors as they send them off to be refurbed. my turbo has no play what so ever, although it cost a few pennys.
