Now im officialy skint its time to renovate instead of replace 1. subframe My rear subframe has alot of surface rust so i am considering taking it off, cleaning it up and re spraying, just wondering the complexitys of taking it off? will i need to remove the fuel tank and anything else i should consider?
2. windscreen seal well now the rains back ive noticed the bottom corner of my windscreen leaks bucket loads so will this require a new seal or is there a chance i can take it off and just pop it back on with a better fit? i dont have a clue
cheers in advance alex

1. It's more than likely that you'll need to fit a new subframe / a second hand subframe in good condition. Check the Haynes manual and MiniWorld May 2010 issue for guidance.
2. New seals are cheap so best to fit a new one. It may be that the scuttle or windscreen surrounds are rotten rather than the seal but you won't necessarily tell until the screen is out

you can fix the seal with window sealant from halfords itsa bit like black mastic or silicone sealant all you do is remove the chrome infill strip and squirt the sealer between the glass and the rubber and the rubber and the body then refit the infill and leave it to set hard(but flexiable)
Rear subframe would depend on the condition of the old frame is it just surface rust? or more structural? also will the bolts into the sills come loose?if not they may stap and you will need to weld captive nuts into the sills.
Why dont you post a photo of the subby and we can advise you better

oh and yes removing the rear subby requires you to remove the fuel tank and disconnect the brakes.

Don't bodge it up! A job done properly once will be cheaper in the long run.

i,m afraid money plays a big part in how perfect you maintain your mini Neil is right if subframe is only surface rust then wire brush it and treat it while on the car delly

I reckon it's time, not money. A windscreen seal isn't much more than the price of a tube of sealer.
But yea, quite agree with the subframe being wire brushed off if only surface rust and you can get to it all. Often the floor above the subframe and the heel board will be rusty as well though. It's cheaper to treat the surface rust now than leave to rot through and then pay out for welding repairs in a few months time.
Don't say I didn't warn ya!

Cool. If you're planning on dropping the subframe out, get some WD40 on the bolts now and leave to soak.
