sussex engine centre, finmere road, ind est, he normal charges around £40 to skim a head
also take your rad out and give it a good flush out and make sure the cores are not blocked

Right well recently changed the head gasket after it had gone, did a few hundred miles and started playing up again, overheated massivley and somehow lost alot of water. had the head off and thought better get it skimmed, Sussex engine centre did a good job cheers for recommendation dean, still having overheating problems , hoping to fix this weekend. Also would recommend mini spares headnhasket kits, mine was £8 and got about 7 gaskets and extra ones chucked in there. On a bad note when it last broke down a mate towed me home, my battery was flat and I had no lights or hazards, my friend saw the police on the way and paniced and pulled over violently bending my front valance, not a problem just annoying, probably leave it for now, think I'm going to leave the car this winter then sort it out for next years shows would love to do riv run but not with a 998 :/

998 will be fine for riv run A bit more power, but I've done it twice in a 1014cc - even driven down to Bavaria and back in it!

small update after all the head stuff had a few teething problems, rad overboiling, smoking exhaust, randomly overheating, not starting, but tackled each problem and now running perfectly. got a few new parts ready for his new year fix up and to keep him running sweet: coil sparks rocker cover thermostat housing and s/s studs+bolts front numberplate ( fell off in the snow ) Adjustable tie rods and lower arms with bush kits Camber and tracking brackets. Gerald also set him up for me, He steadied my engine and seated my Rad properly aswell, thought it was a bargain!

good to see you persevere alex. and riv run is ok in a 998 we did it with 4 people loaded right up with clobber and a er roofbox!was a bit slow on the hills but generally it was ok. you wont get left behind and besides there is useually someone with a trailer so its not about getting there quickly. its about everyone getting there together and in one piece. would recomend you look into recovery though just to be on the safe side

Its a suzuki ignis sport 1.5, bought as it was pretty cheap, and turns out i actually love it! pulls nicely, A/C power steering elecy windows and mirrors, real nice to drive at slow speeds and good for a nice blast on some b roads! as for the mini, hes just having a rest, going to do some work before the event season and imagine most of you saw i bought matts engine and also daves wheels a while back so yer just going to whack it all on over the next months and drive it if the suns out!

your get a bolt on usable set for around £250 second hand
there is fiesta brake conversion, as long as you get hold of a usable set of calipers with carries, your be fine if you manage to collect the parts over time cheap , your be able to do it fairly cheap,
or mini spares do a conversion kit with there own style of caliper, for around £220,
just make sure your ball joints and bearings are good, and your be fine.

i was looking into the fiesta conversion, but with early fiestas becoming a bit rarer i think i might make my life easier and go for the minispares kit dean mentioned at £220, also mini sport have a sale on with there set currently at £202, either way its not my main priority, thats the engine, so maybe next month!
