hey tony.. firstly its not a 5min job, i did victors when he was totaly stripped off all front pannels, pretty sure wings and a pannels have to be removed as under the skuttle you have closing pannels fixed to the skuttle, youll probably need to replace these as well.you may be able to save wings and a pannels but its a lot of work, however appreciate money is hard to come by an we all want to save money,if you want to save pannels you will need to drill out all the origial spot welds to remove the pannels.i did however find fitting the skuttle was relitivly easy ,you need plenty of mole grips as it is fiddly.be prepared for some nasty holes in the flitch pannels as this is a favourite when your skuttle is gone.you may find it easier to do the whole lot in one go and a good weekend would see it all done.

full skuttle under £40 wings£50 pair a pannel around £15 pair skuttle closure £10 each front pannel under £50 all non genuine alternativly you could always go for a flip front as there always seems to be a few on the market

tony you can go for fibre glass ,steal or carbon. fiberglass ones are much lighter but they never fit very well. carbon are very expensive, but very light more for race use or buy all the steal panels and make a flip front, but then you might as well weld them back on as normal, but if you do go the flip front route you will need to get some brace bars to hold the front subframe up and put some strenght back, normal around £30 brace bars www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?ty=pb&pid=36383&title=PAIR%20FRONT%20BRACE%20BARS%20MIN... flip front www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?ty=pb&pid=38835&title=FRONT%20END%20FIBREGLASS%20MINI... you will also need a way to hold it in place securely, and to stop it moving around. no genuine scuttle, not the best fit, genuine are about £95 www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?ty=pb&pid=42440&title=WINDCREEN%20LOWER%20SCUTTLE%20P... so your already looking at about £250 in parts and that not inluding the panel work and any hidden bits, i am not trying to scare you off, just letting you know what it will cost and what is needed, so you dont rush in and do it, then dont have bits to finish, bacuse if you have the front end cut off you cant drive it around there are a few people in the club with flip fronts,(Paul30, steve medhurst) so best to talk to them and look at there cars and see how they did it, look into it do a few searches and make sure this is the way you want to go.

well it depends on what need doing to your car in metal work , as tel said if you do a scuttle, you need to do the wings and front panel you may get away with not doing the A panels but if they are rot change them.
best to go around your car and write a list of what body work needs doing, if there are a few bubbles it may be bigger under neath, a screwdriver is very handy
then work out what panels are needed, on some panels you have to do a few others at the same time , like doing a scuttle,
and if you can streatch to genuine do it , some pattern panels are a pain to fit, or just dont line up, it will cost you more to have them fitted, when a genuine will just fit and cost you less to fit,
on my mk 1 i think i have spent near to £700 in panels but 75% were genuine heritage.which fitted like my boot floor and from that i have tought my self to weld,
if you have a welder and gas give it a go it will save you hundreds,
