Hi all,
I recently bought dean's rolling shell off him (thanks Dean!) And after a bit of panic over where to store it, a friend stepped in and gave me the use of his garage, which is about 30mins pootle away in Sarah's Mini.
Sieve has now been taken off the road, as the road tax has run out, and with his MOT due, i decided not to risk putting him through another, as he was in a bit of a state.
I plan to keep the 998 engine out of him (79.8 BHP last RR session, with a dodgy carb) and nick the Superlites and Maniflow system when i get round to it.
Today was my 1st day working on the new mini, and after recommendations from Jim and Paul (thanks for the tow Paul!) I started under the wings with some underseal and elbow grease.
This is the right drivers side after a bit of a scrub with a wire brush, took a lot of the surface rust and crap off! After finding out i wasn't as flexible as i thought i was, i'd cleaned up both wings and gave them a paint with the underseal. They look much better now and hopefully will keep the rust at bay during the winter months.
I then cleaned up and undersealed the bottom of the car, while it was up on its side.
Next was the fun part, i got out my new angle grinder, and decided to clean up some of the rust that was in the engine bay. it was great fun using the grinder, and it cleaned up really nicely. One thing though, sparks on your lips really hurts!
This is the bay after i'd painted some red oxide on what i'd cleaned up
Next time im down im going to clean up the front subframe and hopefully whack some hammerite on it.
Tom
