going to change the starter for a pre engaged to match the flywheel and bypass the piggy back solenoid using the existing loom and solenoid

right sorted the starter out now extended the loom to match a pre engaged
turning over but it's not firing just the odd pop
its got an electric dizzy set in with the connector at 9 oclock and the metal cone bit at 12oclock and the ht lead plugged in clockwise 1243 but i don't think thats right was copying another engine i had
theres spark and petrol (might be lean) but won't fire up
any suggestions
have i been a numpty?
