Forgetting the mot rules regarding fuel injection and cats for a moment .
I am right in saying there is no reason why the injection system on the SPI engine could not be replaced by a carb ?
The SPI still has a coil , although no wire to the dizzy and its missing the temp sensor in the head .
Dont need to be asked why , just want to know if it is possible as i think it is.

I've definitely seen and heard of it being done on an SPI, do they not run a dizzy then? The block is the same as a carb car isn't it, not like the MPI. Single HIF44, would be just like my Mainstream.

they run a dizzy. The mpi blocks are indeed differant to all other blocks.

Bogey's engine came from Gav's cooper which I think was a SPI
I will check ;D

You can't use the head off the SPI as it doesn't have the take off for the transducer for the temperature gauge.
Everything else can be used.

No idea I was just quoting Gav ;D He changed the head on Bogey as it was the easiest way. He did say it can be done with the head but more complicated ;D

the car gets its reading via a sensor in the inlet manifold. there is no temp gauge take off in the head so i was thinking the metro set up would be the way to go to.

You could use the existing fuel tank easy enough, just blank off the return. Surely you could also use the SPI fuel pump? If it can supply petrol for the injection it will have enough oomph to feed a carb. Maybe a fuel pressure regulator required?

I have a spare carb tank if you need one.

injection tank pump works at about 6lb sq inch ,not sure if a float valve can stand that ? dont block off the return just loop it and have a take off to the carb, sorted lower pressure just right ,,,,,,, till tank filter gets chogged up.
