Hey there, I own a pink Mini Mayfair in Langney. I recently had an engine swop to a 1275, but im having trouble with my carburetor tuning my mini...if anyone can give me any advice or can recommend someone to have a look at her for me i would be very grateful as i have been trying to get her back on the road for quite sometime and would like to join this club. If anyone can help my email is: claire.archer@cibus.co.uk I haven't had much luck with other mechanics and she is quite a stubborn car Thanks Penelope pitstop

Hello, is that the car with white arches and bumpers by any chance?
The next meet is on monday night at langney sports so pop down and have a chat, I'm sure theres a few people who could help out and give advice.
As for setting the car up, best bet would be a dyno run over at Gerald Dale's in Ninfield, I think he does a decent price for EDMC members so worth joining up.
I think the problem with some mechanics is that they don't see many minis anymore. I know when I called the AA out before he didn't really know too much about older cars ignition and timing etc

Welcome, What carb do you have on the car? is it from the metro or the old one off your car? It may be in need of a rebuild if its been difficult. The next step after the rebuild would be Gerald Dale to setup the whole engine. Simon

Hello and welcome! What Simon says really, think about rebuilding the carb, about £40 for the bits to do that and I'm sure Simon is a willing volunteer to actually do the work for you! It is quite easy to do if you buy the correct rebuild kit, doesn't take long and means you can set the carb up perfectly without having to compensate for all the previous wear and tear that I'm sure it will have on it! Are you coming down to the meeting on Monday night? We could identify the carb there and then, see how worn it looks and advise as necessary, there are usually plenty of people willing to stick their heads under your bonnet on a club night.

Well I had a look under the bonnet. First up I found almost no spark at the plugs, the ignition leads looked very old and the distributor cap spark eroded to naff all. Replaced those along with new plugs. Sadly Halfords no long hold points and condensers in stock, so cleaned up the points face and set the gap by eye.... Found a broken earth strap, again replaced. The car turned over much better and I'm sure that will help the flat battery charge. I'd achieved a better spark but it wasn't consistent. I think the original coil just isn't delivering the punch any more or the condenser had died. More replacement items recommended. So I just about got it running. But not well. My attention turned to the carb & mixture. I tried to make adjustments but nothing happened! I stripped it down to find the adjustment tube seized along with the idle screw. I released the adjustment tube and refitted. Sadly I did not have any gaskets to refit the carb, the old ones were shot. Then one of the two nuts to secure the carb dropped into the black hole behind the engine. At that point I gave up for the day. ;D So just a small shopping list and a setup required to get the poor little engine reliable again.

well done simon , i had ahalf day on it sorted all bits you mentioned and some !! carb is now correctly installed and fuel pipe in right place , breather plate manufactured and installed . still running like sh1t but it needs a set of points and more importantly a condensor which is making run poor at mo , once replaced then and only then the mixture can be sorted with the colour tune . which will sort it out , then theres all the mot stuff , noticed a couple of subframe mounts have been shafted by the prang its had , didnt look any further !!.clair and her folks have got to be prepared to spend a bit of money on it with the right mechanics who know what they are doing to get it back on spec . waiting for claire to get back to me with regards to whats all ready been completed S .
