the open arrived this afternoon ;D , after dinner i needed to relax a tad after the two women in the family spoiled dinner which i had spent cooking for an hour ggggrrrrr (itallian)
i started by jacking the car up and placing chocs in front of frontt wheels , i then rested the car on axle stands placed carefully on the rear jacking points ,i then removed the wheels with the nut gun bbzzzzzzrrrrrrrbbb
then i removed all the gear from the boot and disconnected the battery straightened out clamp ready to pass thru the grommeted hole.removed the front subframe bolts (easier than usual !!)
removed filler cap and then the tank replacing the filler cap when rested in the spare wheel well
tools down 1/4 to ten back indoors in a better mood to find compliments on the meal SORTED BONUS !!
EEK FOUND A BIT OF RUST (SMALL)
more to come tomorrow
hello again , late start had to talk to O/R and discuss the unwilling departure of my most prized possesions namely my 71 clubby and my cooper .nuff said .disconnect handbrake cable from inside
undo the shock absorbers
disconnect the hydaulic brake line
battery and brakes and exhaust disconnected placed jack with long bit of wood under subframe and removed all of the bolts with the help of camera man sorry
found a few of the rear bolts to be a bit tight almost sheared this one
subframe removed and started stripping the frame , firstly the handbrake cable wheel to wheel came out then all the bolts which hold the outer brackets on came out barring one which sheared , then the flexible hose pipe unions on the radius arms and finally the solid pipework on the frame came off then out came the radius arms by undoing the main nuts inside the frame , after renoving these the mounts had to be removed from each corner .
with the frame removed i found a few bits of the dreaded irish woodworm
which is the next part of the job ........watch this space
started at 1330 after dinner got the area with the hole cleaned off with the flapper type grinding disc
treated with rust treatment
another place with just surface rust , cleaned off and treated
next measure and cut out plate and paint innerside
remove all combustables from inside and install ever willing fire watcher !!
patch welded and ground
up on top and in the boot next , ground off excess rust and rust treated
patch welded in and ground off
then seam sealed to protect from further damp problems
prepare other side remove surface rust with grinder rust treated and welded plates in
ground down and seam sealed
welding done wait untill tomorrow for seam sealer to go off and prime and paint with british racing green.
then wait for new sub frame to arrive to rebuild and re fit .
