The piston rings blew after a month and the engine decided to leak oil constantly and blow blue smoke
the block apparently is a 1275 austin alegro with straight cut gears
duke is made from about 5 other cars

Worked on due for the first time in 6months
but it was to strip out the seats and carpet
drill a hole in the passenger floor pan to let out 3 inches of water
and put a cover over him to protect him
feels like a massive step backwards

Gearbox.... Reuse your SC box. A rebuild is not difficult, but have a couple of spare gearbox's around to use as spares during the build. Taking all the best bits for one box. You will need a Mini Spares gasket and bearing set. Don't bother with a full rebuild kit, the lay shafts are made of cheese and baulk rings mudstone. These should be taken from old stock, ie good ones with no wear from your spare gearbox's. An old box, that has done 50000 miles and has some good components in, those are proven items and worth using. Rebuilding your diff with new washers/bearing faces is more than likley to be on the cards. Add a central oil pickup pipe and a hardened diff pin to the list. Or a x pin diff.... and SC drop gears.... the list goes as far as your bank will take you! So.... first strip the box and access the damage. Then strip a few more box's for the spares, then buy gaskets, bearings and bits you cant get 2nd hand.

Thats your choice A. Get the car on the road sooner and get some smiles ;D or B. Do it all right once, but not see the car on the road for a while longer? Option A for me, but thats only because I'm on a budget. With lots of spare dosh it would be option B. The box rebuild can be done in a weekend. I'm sure PAUL would volunteer to help you.
