Over the weekend I had a go at fitting a heater to the air filter in an attempt to cure the carb icing. The heater is avaliable from RS and costs less than £10. I was told this has cured other peoples icing problems over on TMF. Awaiting installation fitted Just need to give it a test run now to see if it works N.

Seeing Matts update has reminded me to download the photo off my phone from my session up at VMAX last week and update my diary Basically the pickup spent all summer in hibenation apart from helping me move house twice inbetween. It came out of the lockup to collect my old engine from Simons back in october and still went like stick with that in the load bed! Other mods since getting it back on the road include the fitting the group II arches with rivnuts and stainless cap head bolts all I will say is the somerford mini premium are not worth the extra. I which I had gone with some cheap chineese ones from hudersfield as the fit would have probably been the same So more details about my RR session up at VMAX. Basically I wasent too impressed with the setup session to be honest as all Stuart really did was a power run and not an optimisation tune up as I had expected. anyway power run up at stuarts gave it 112 BHP with 125 Ft/Lbs. So if you disregard the difference in rolling roads just bolting on the supercharger and relapping the valves has gained me 30 BHP... not bad eh? I'm hopeing for more once I get it set up properly as I still have my flat fpot at 1500 rpm. but where to take it? N.

Need some ideas to give me enthusiasm with this project basically I have done just over 100 miles since my last update and spent more hours doing maintenance than driving it. Anyway need some ideas basically all I can think of is fitting a mk1 chrome drill and I fancy going back to 7x13 wheels with either sport pack or Mexico arches oh and some more lowering N

By the sounds of it if you have to keep maintaining that much in 100 miles I think it's time to do a proper job and start a rebuild.
For me I would keep that standard look but uprate all the Unseen things. Engine ( which is done ). Suspension etc.
What every you do don't put the 13" on. You may think it will look nice but it makes it drive worse plus all the arch cutting your need to do. Which is not easy to turn back.
Would you keep it white! Was your car always white.
Seeing a nice original pickup is better than seeing a over modified one. Big wheels stupid colour. Seats out of some ford mondao, and fibreglass dash that don't fit. = 1 ruined pick up in my eyes.

Throw the A-series away and fit something modern with 5 gears,no matter how much you tune an A-series it will always have a skipping rope crankshaft and be horrendous to drive on long runs due to a lack of a 5th gear.

I have a very nice r1 engine. 150 bhp. Lovely sound. 6 gears. Fits under a mini bonnet. Revs to 10,000 rpm plus. And did I say the sound. !!!!
And now there are a few companys now who do kits to fit them in. Pro- motive. , lycx, there is one with a very nice diff set up But not cheap. Or make your own. You can get diff kits with bearings in mounts etc. I looked into all this when I was thinking of doing it.

So I think you should conentrate on making it more reliable a nicer to drive, then you will drive it more often.....it already looks very nice.

How about being a trend setter and doing a small modern Diesel Tdi conversion........not as daft as it sounds.......think about it. Most modern 1.3/1.4 diesels are around 75 + bhp. (thats more than 1275 GT power) Modern small diesels make shed loads of torque which wiil give you more pulling power. Modern diesels return over 60mpg in there super heavy original bodies so when put in an 600 kg Mini shell this must increase to around 70mpg Modern diesels are very reliable with long service intervals. They all come with 5 gears....some have 6
And youll never be affraid of rain again.

Tempted by the engine swap idea and the r1 would fit with minimal chopping of the inner wings too but the one I really fancy is the mintec all wheel drive conversion but that would require lots of chopping.
What do you recon my current engine setup would fetch?
