Well I'm back... While I was away.... The mini would not turn over very well.... It stalled regurally.... So Josie fitted a solinod, Thats another story! Josie's Mum's other half, checked the points and had a fiddle. Then delivered it to Josie at work.... on the way it died and would not restart....... So I returned.... First thing, engine earth strap, dead and now replaced. Engine now turns over but no/poor spark. New condenser, leads, points, cap and arm. Now it sparks. Would change the coil but cant get one in the nearest five miles. Got it going with full throttle but the rpm would not even go over the rev's to charge the battery.... And it was only running of cyclinders 1&2..... A chat to shawn and off I went to get a head gasket for a fiver. Recovery got the car home (That's twice in one month), five minutes later a compression test showed no compression on 3&4. A hour later the gasket for 3cyclinders is hanging up with the xmas decorations. I'm putting on my spare head and in the process one of the push rods was proud by a inch.... off came the cover at the back, the follower and come up with the rod and fallen on its side in the cover area! d**n thing! It got too dark to put together so gave up and got a take away and a few glass's of wine with Josie. I'm on my way back out there now, the day before xmas.... mumble.. blood... mumble.. car.. mumble.. Think I'll be retro fitting a gameboy injection system soon! Merry xmas everyone. ;D

lucky the pushrod/follower problem did not happen with a 1275 block , no tappet chest covers on those (except S)

Well avid Duckling fans... Sorted out the running problems, new gaskets were found for the exhaust manifold and carb. Run's okay but not as good as she used to. I think it maybe the unknown quality head I put on. Should of done a compression test, but run out of daylight. I put Josie to work replacing spade connections after I replaced the fuse box. Most to the original connections just fell apart Thought I'd be smart and fix the wiper parking switch. After removing the motor wires from the switch box, I forgot which way around the three wires went doh! ;D Ten minutes of internet surfing found me & Josie at Minisports wiper-motor photo. Sorted. A bit of grease went on the cogs and now the wipers are better than ever. The battery box at the back is about to fail... half of the flat bottom is still (just) attached. A 1/2 inch thick, cut to size, slab of plywood as gone in the spread the load. Battery box on the shopping list With drums all around on the brakes, I make a point of adjusting them at least every quarter. While turning the wheels at the front to find the shoe adjuster biting point... I noted a clicking noise, one never heard before! Somewhere in the gearbox , it sounds like a dead roller bearing. Guess the replacement engine will be going in soon than I was expecting ;D Good news, the car had a respray.... ;D Under the off-side quarter window she was bleeding rust. Thank god for the easy matching primer grey. One day it might get painted ;D ;D

Thankyou Jim - For letting me borrow an engine host. Although Josie did need to bolt back together the pump which fell apart Thankyou Dave for the 998 block and gearbox for the duckling. Oh and the cuppa. Wow, 100mile round trip from Nutley to Nutley via Hastings and Peacehaven! Now, stage one kit, unleaded head, oil pump, engine gasket set, oil seal set and a long weekend of good weather.... I hope the Duckling will last a few months! ;D Sorry Si forgot to tell you its a clockwork hoist ;D ;D ;D Still at least that ment Josie could fix it I see our cuppa not good enough for you then must be wrong type of water. As for a fine weekend I think your having a larf.

Cheers again Jim.
Now I've managed to get hold of the cheapest low mileage unleaded 998 head off ebay for only £20!!!! I can slap together the replacement engine for the duckling ;D
Shame the head is bolted to an Auto Block with a dead gearbox. Anyone know if i can use a spider drive cam and oil pump with a standard block? The auto block has a kent cam fitted.

you can either use a spider drive or a slot drive but you can not mix and match them . the cam journals are the same size as are the screw holes in the same place with both the oil pumps .

Well... now I've some competition. Its been a busy week on the minis, I've done a lot. While I was away in Eire with work I did a lot of thinking... well dreaming. ;D Now I've go the pieces to throw a respectable standard engine in the duckling, or do I do a proper job.... stage one, cam, gearbox bits, oil seals, radiator..... Reality check now I'm back. Josie's watch the cash flow lol ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Guess I'll budget for under £50. Just the essentials, oil pump, gaskets and seals. The rest will have to follow ;D

This made me laugh when opened a letter from DVLA, I quote.... "Dear Miss Coc ker ton Vehicle Registration Mark: A******X (the duckling basically!) "An error may have occured in our records regarding the colour of the above vehicle and I would appreciate your help in trying to resolve it.
"Although vehicle manufactures use a wide range of colours for their vehicles, we only use the basic colours to cover manufacture's description.
"These basic colours are important for identification purposes and have been agreed with the manufacturers.
"A list of basic colours is shown overleaf.
"If you feel that the colour shown on your Registration Document/Certificate is incorrect, please indicate which colour matches your vehicle and return the reply slip with your Registration Document/Certificate in the enclosed pre-paid envelope"........Battleship Grey isnt on the list....neither is Primer Grey! ;D ;D
