The duck is under the knife again. The engines coming out as I'm fed up with 30mpg and 60mph at 4000mph. Economy run around is the goal, a 2.7diff will be dropped in.
I'd been monitoring some excessive play in the N/S front hub. On a strip down, the bearing outer race's had chewed into the hub. So a replacement hub is now required. Like the idea of fiesta calipers.
Plan is to build up a good front subframe and economical engine. Then which shell to put it in.......

Stripped the old engine tonight. The 998 was removed as it was noisy and making a nasty ticking sound. Also hoped to harvest a 2.95 final drive for Project C.... Found the ticking noise.... The mainshaft has two ball bearings, to support the gearbox mainshaft next to the final drive. Both bearings are missing steel_balls! Lots of steel_balls. Due to this failed bearing, the final drive gears are less than perfect, not suitable for Project C's 'super' gearbox Good for ebay though! ;D Will strip the box for spares now, but the engine looks like a few new bearing, cam followers and it will be ready to reuse.

You can just use an ordinary bot in there, you dont have to replace it with the factory standard. N

Had a tidy up in the lockup, the duck is now at the front. A new bearing is in the O/S hub. Next is the final drive change to a 3.1 and and front sub frame change.
Must sharpen the blades for operation 'grass cutter'.

I've been a little busy, the duck now sports a 3.1 final drive, a new subframe, new hub and bearings. And the engine turned over this evening... next is to get it running
